Orange Russian Cream

June 23, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

Summer can be so busy and hectic! It feels like I blink and the kids are back in school. With five kids, we always have so many things going on.

Sometimes it’s hard to just relax and enjoy the moment. When life seems to be getting away from you, sometimes the best thing to do is to stop and relax by putting your feet up and enjoying some Orange Russian Cream!

The Perfect Rice Krispie Treat

June 19, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

My Aunt Elizabeth makes the most amazing rice krispie treats! She has been making them for our family gatherings since I was a little. One of the things I love the most about her rice krispie treats is that she always put M&M’s in them. After the blessing on the food, my cousins and I love to make a mad dash for the plate with her M&M rice krispie treats. I must admit that there might have been a few times that I snuck one before we were even ready to eat.

What I love Wednesday

June 18, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

We have all had the experience of painting a sign of some sort or craft and you need to paint a really fine straight line. If you are anything like me, as soon as your hand touches the paint brush, you suddenly get a case of the shakes. Then I get all stressed out trying to keep the lines straight and end up shaking even more.

One day while shopping at Walmart, I stumbled across some paint markers in the craft section. I was curious about how well they would work so I bought one and took it home to give it a try. That is when my crafting world was forever changed for the better!

1776 Canvas Art

June 17, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

1776-Canvas-Art

If you think that my Paint Stick Flag is easy to make, you will love this one. It took half the time to make and was cheaper too. I think that the paint stick flag looks so cute displayed next to this 1776 canvas art.

I like to buy the canvas at Walmart.  They sell a pack of three for $4.97.  That makes each one about $1.67. I already had the paint from the last project so this project cost me under $2.00.  Really, come on you can’t get any better than that!

Until next time,

Carrie

Paint Stick Flag

June 16, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

This project was so fun and easy to put together. I am so happy with how it turned out. I had a million projects going on at once so I didn’t get pictures of all the steps.

It was so easy that I bought some more paint sticks to make some vintage looking signs for my daughters room. Don’t worry, I will tell you all about that one later.

My husband loved that this project only cost me $4.58 total. Here is the break down.

11 paint sticks @ $.28 each = $3.08

1 bottle of navy blue acrylic paint @ $.50 each = $.50

1  bottle of red acrylic paint @$.50 each = $.50

1 bottle of white acrylic paint @ $.50 each = $.50

Total cost of this project = $4.58

I already had all the other supplies.

You may have to sort through the paint sticks at the store to find the best ones because some of them might be warped. I wanted mine to have a vintage look so I wasn’t too worried about the paint sticks being perfect.

I worked hard all weekend to this  finishing up all my patriot projects. Stay tuned for other tutorials this week.

Until next time,

Carrie

Copycat J-Dawg Sauce

June 13, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

My boys love hot dogs! They always get so excited when they see me pulling the hot dogs out of the fridge for dinner.

I don’t usually care to much for hot dogs unless they are barbecued or roasted over a fire.

About a year ago my husband told me about a hot dog  joint that had catered a party at his work. He told me they were local and their name was J-Dawgs. Of course being the curious foodie that I am, I knew I had to try it. I loved it! I personally think that their secret J-Dawg sauce is what makes the hot dog.

So, when I saw this recipe for a copycat J-Dawg sauce on yourhomebasedmom.com , I knew I had to try it! Let me tell you, I wasn’t disappointed! This sauce is so good, I could seriously drink it!

One of the great things about this recipe is that there is no cooking required. I put mine in a condiment bottle and store the unused sauce in the fridge.

Give this fabulous sauce a try at your next barbecue or hot dog roast. I am warning you though, once you try it, you won’t want to eat a hot dog with out it ever again.

Until next time,

Carrie

Bean Stacks

June 10, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

Remember my friend Kirsten that gave me the crock pot black and red beans recipe?  Well, she also told me about the bean stacks. I know, I am totally lucky to have her as a friend!

I make the beans stacks with the left over beans. It is a meal that I know that all my kids will eat. Each one of my kids like their bean stack made a different way. So we set it up buffet style and let the kids make their own.

So from one recipe of the crock pot black and red beans, you can get two meals. As if that wasn’t enough, I will have one more recipe for you on Thursday that you can use these beans for. Seriously, this is one of those golden recipes that just keeps on giving! So what are you waiting for lets get cooking!

Until next time,

Carrie

Orange Cilantro Coleslaw

June 9, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

I love this salad. It is a refreshing spin on the classic coleslaw. I always like to serve dishes with a different twist than what people are use to. It has the same creamy and crunchy texture as the classic coleslaw.  The orange and golden raisins give it a vibrant and refreshing flavor. Also, the cilantro helps to bring all the flavors together perfectly.

This salad would be the perfect side to grilled chicken, BBQ hamburgers, or even as a topping on a pulled pork sandwich. Oh man, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It’s a good thing that I have some leftovers in my fridge. I might just be having me some orange cilantro coleslaw for breakfast.

This salad is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters!

Crock Pot Baked Beans

June 5, 2014 by myrecipeconfessions

I got the original recipe from a friend who got it from her sister that lives in Mexico. I love these beans! The recipe makes a lot but I was told by my friend that it is better to cook 4 cups of beans because it has more flavor. One of the great things about this recipe is that you don’t have to soak the beans overnight. There is a little bit of prep work that goes into the beans at first, but once that is done you can just let the beans cook in the crock pot for most of the day.

crock pot black and red beans

You want to make sure that there is about 1/2 inch of liquid covering the beans at all times. If the liquid goes below 1/2 inch, add more water to cover the beans. I like to wait until the beans have been cooking for about 4 hours before I add the bacon. I feel that the flavor is more pronounced if  I add the bacon later instead of at the beginning.

You can store any leftover beans in the fridge for about 5 days. I just recently put some of  the leftover beans in a ziplock freezer bag and stuck them in the freezer. I will let you know how they taste when I thaw them out. I will also have a few other recipes on the blog next week that I use these beans in.

These beans are definitely a crowd pleaser! My family always requests them when we have a family pot luck. They are always willing to take home any leftovers that I am willing to part with.
