If I want to hear my kids shout for joy at dinner time, I only have to say two words: Pizza Snake! They love everything about making and eating this pizza snake. Their favorite part aside from eating it is to paint the snake. I give each kid a paint brush and a small bowl with the food color of their choice and they go to town creating their “new snake species” as my son would say.
I recommend using the cheap paint brushes that you can buy for kids to paint. I have found that the bristles don’t come out when painting the snake. Of course you will want to use brand new brushes each time you make this.
When you are painting the snake, be careful not to get the snake too wet or the dough will be all wrinkly.
Seriously, this pizza snake isn’t just for kids. I love it too. If you like pizza, then you will love this! I like to serve the remaining marinara sauce on the side to dip the snake in. Have fun with it and take lots of pictures. I guarantee that your kids will be smiling from ear to ear.
When making bread I will only use a Bosch Mixer! I absolutely love mine and will never use anything else. You can read all about the mixer and check out the reviews by clicking on the Amazon link below.
With love from my kitchen to yours,

Pizza Stuffed Snake
Dough
2 tbsp. of yeast
3 tbsp. of granulated sugar
2 1/2 cups of warm water
1 tbsp. of salt
5 tbsp. of canola oil
5 1/2 to 6 cups of bread flour
Instructions
- In a stand mixer (I use a Bosch) fit with a bread hook, mix yeast, sugar, and 1/2 cup of warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Add the salt, oil and three cups of flour and mix. Continue to add one cup at a time until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
Pizza Filling
1 (5oz.) pkg. of pepperoni, cut into quarters
1 (6oz.) pkg. of Canadian bacon, cut into quarters
1 (6.5 oz.) can of sliced olives
2 cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 cup of marinara sauce
1 tsp. of onion powder
1 tsp. of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. of basil
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl mix all the ingredients together.
Snake Eye’s and Tongue
2 slices of black or green olives
1 red pepper, julienned (you will only need 1 slice so the pepper for the tongue, you can dice up the remaining pepper and add it to the pizza filling)
Food Coloring Paint
1 tbsp. of water
3 to 4 drops of desired food coloring
- In a small bowl, mix the water and food coloring together.
Snake Assembly
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Divide dough in half equally. Set one half aside and with the other half, roll it to 21 inches long and 5 inches wide with one end rounder than the other. The rounder end will be the head.
2. Divide the pizza filling in half and place it down the middle of the dough.
3. At the narrower end of the dough, fold both ends over tightly so that it forms a point for the tail. You can stretch the dough if you need to to make it fit.
4. Continue folding the sides over and sealing the seam by pinching it together.
5. Fold the tip of snake over so that it meets the rest of the body of the snake. Pinch the seams together to seal.
6. Gently roll the snake over and place it on a greased baking sheet in an “S” shape.
7. With a paring knife, cut two Xs where you want the eyes and place a sliced olive into each X. Cut an X where you want the tongue and place the red pepper strip into it.
8. Using the food coloring mixture, paint the snake. Be careful not to get the snake too wet with the food coloring or the dough will be wrinkly and not as smooth when you bake it. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
9. Once you have finished painting the snake, place it in the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes. Serve the snake on a bed of shredded green leaf lettuce and the remaining marinara sauce for dipping.
