Grilled Honey Teriyaki Chicken will quickly become your new favorite go to recipe. The meat is so tender and juicy that it practically melts in your mouth. The honey teriyaki glaze and marinade is full of flavor and really helps make the chicken moist. Grilling the chicken for a few minutes on each side adds the perfect finishing touch to this chicken!
With meat prices up as high as they are, I thought you and your wallet might enjoy this budget friendly meal. This recipe is adapted from Melissa’s Southern Style Kitchen. My family loved this chicken !
The only change I would make is removing the skin from the chicken before marinating it. My husband and I both removed the skin before eating it. If you like the skin on your chicken, then you can skip that step.
This is a great recipe if you are having a casual get together and need to feed a lot of people.
Until next time,
Carrie
Grilled Honey Teriyaki Chicken
Marinade
4 lbs. Chicken drumsticks or thighs
1 1/2 cup of teriyaki sauce
1 cup of brown sugar, packed
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp. fresh ginger, minced
1/2 cup of green onions, chopped
1 tsp. sesame oil
Glaze
1 cup of teriyaki sauce
2/3 cup of honey
1/2 cup of brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup of green onions, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp. fresh ginger, minced
1 tbsp. of sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
Instructions
1.Remove the skin from the chicken and place in a gallon size ziplock bag. Mix all the marinade ingredients together and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the marinade over the chicken and close the bag. Place the chicken in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight for best results. Once or twice during the marinating process, flip the bag to make sure that all the chicken is covered.
2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Remove the chicken from the marinade and place in a 9×13 pan. Discard the marinade. Cover with tin foil and bake for 20 minutes.
3. While the chicken bakes, simmer the glaze ingredients in a small sauce pan over medium high heat until it reduces and is a thick syrup consistency. Remove from heat.
4. After the chicken has baked for 20 minutes, brush the glaze on both sides of the chicken. Bake uncovered for an additional 20 minutes or until the juice runs clear from the chicken.
5. Brush the glaze on the chicken and place the chicken glaze side down on a hot barbecue grill. Grill the chicken for 2 to 3 minutes or until the chicken begins to char. Brush the glaze on the chicken and flip it over. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes and remove the chicken from the grill. Loosely cover the chicken with tin foil and allow the chicken to rest for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle the chicken with sesame seeds and serve.
